Larry Lee Perkins

On Wednesday, April 9, 2014 we mourned the passing of Larry Lee Perkins, known as 'Perky', at age 77, at Unity Point Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa from complications from illness. Larry was born on January 8, 1937, in Des Moines, Iowa to Lowell and Helen (Yates) Perkins. A graduate of Roosevelt High School, he attended Drake University and graduated from University of Iowa. Larry served in the 63rd Iowa General Assembly, in the House of Representatives for Pottawattamie County. Larry spent many years as a Salesman and lived in Council Bluffs and Waverly in Iowa. He was currently living in West Des Moines with his wife of 33 years, Jean. He is also survived by 4 stepdaughters: Jill, Jodi, Jenni and Juli. Larry had 7 children from a previous marriage: Teresa, Laura, Anita, Larry Jr., Jennifer, James and Mark. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Larry was cremated according to his wishes. A memorial service will be planned at a later date. Larry was an accomplished vocalist and musician. He enjoyed doing The New York Times Crossword daily, collecting Beer steins and was an avid NASCAR fan.
