Laura Elizabeth Harrington Miller, daughter of James Harrington and Laura Pinard Harrington, was born June 7, 1919 in Brooklyn, New York and died February 8, 2006 at the Perry Lutheran Home in Perry, Iowa at the age of 86 years, 8 months and 1 day. Laura grew up in Brooklyn before her family moved to Queens, New York. She attended public school in New York. In 1939, Laura was united in marriage to Thomas Marshall Miller Jr. They were the proud parents of two children: Nancy and Thomas Marshall Miller III. They made their home in Queens and then in Huntington Station, New York, where Laura worked as a telephone operator. In 1962, Thomas retired and he and Laura sold everything and bought a sailboat and sailed through the Bahamas, Virgin Islands and the West Indies. They sailed the Caribbean for 25 years. They then lived in Florida until moving to Bouton, Iowa in 1999. Laura loved to work metal especially copper. She also liked to make Afghans and journal. She kept many journals of her travels all through the Caribbean and had many good stories to tell. Laura was a member of the St. Agnus Catholic Church in Florida. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother James Harrington Jr. She is survived by her daughter: Nancy Bishop of Bouton, Iowa; her son: Thomas Marshall Miller III and his wife Dawn of Wellington, Florida; 7 grandchildren: Sandra Bishop, Sharon Bishop, Charles Bishop Jr., Thomas Marshall Miller IV, Cristina Miller Kennedy, Andrea Miller and Alison Miller; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
