On June 8, 1962 Laurel was united in marriage to Betty Jean Alexander. Through his life, Laurel worked as a horse trainer and later worked as a Chef, retiring from Robin’s Wood Oven Grill in Des Moines. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset; where pastors Bill Branson and Rich Koster will officiate. Family will gather one hour prior to services to receive friends, as well as immediately following at a reception to be held at the funeral home. Military honors will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184 both of Winterset. Survivors include his son, Dan Meyers (Machelle) of Indian Harbour Beach, Florida; his step-daughter, Darcey Paullin (Dan) of Winterset; a brother, Bill Meyers (Mary Jane) of Milbank, South Dakota; eight grandchildren (Dan, Dean, Jennifer, Jaquelyn, Julana, Brady, Jared and Tyler); and ten great grandchildren (Hayden, Braylon, Zachary, Joseph, Jacob, Laura, Zoe, Piper, Ian and Trevor). He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Milton and Verna Bury; his father, Willard Meyers; his wife, Betty Jean Meyers and a step-daughter, Sherry Joyner. Laurel was born March 17, 1929 in Milbank, South Dakota, the son of Willard and Verna (Lambert) Meyers. He served in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. Visitation: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service and Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa. Service: Memorials may be directed to Middle River Hospice or Winterset Care Center South's Activity Fund. Memorial: Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Winterset Cemetery, Winterset, Iowa at a later date.
