Lawrence George Richardson "Larry" was born February 2, 1936 in Crocker Township, Polk County, Iowa to Harry Richardson and Catherine (Glass) Richardson. He grew up in Des Moines, attended Dowling High School, and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School in 1955 while living with his grandparents George and Catherine Glass. Larry married Sheila Hickey and the two were blessed with three children Elizabeth Anne, Don, and Nancy. They later divorced and he married Betty Joan (Jo) Bennett in 1967. He worked as an Electrician for most of his life. Larry and Jo moved to Alpine, California in 1986 and remained there until 2016 when they returned to Perry to be closer to family. Larry enjoyed going to the dirt tracks and watching the races, visiting casinos to play the slot machines, and telling jokes or pulling pranks on family and friends. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and a past member of the Knights of Columbus and Kiwanis. Larry died June 18, 2023 at the Perry Lutheran Homes-Eden Acres. He was preceded in death by his grandparents George and Catherine Glass, parents Harry and Catherine Richardson, wife Betty Joan (Jo), brothers Robert Richardson and John Richardson, nephews Billy Richardson and Michael Richardson, niece Kathleen Richardson, his cousin and best friend Denny Glass, and many other cousins. Larry is survived by his three children: Elizabeth "Anne" Richardson of Johnston, Don Richardson (Laura) of Minburn, and Nancy Ortega (JR) of Buckeye, AZ; six grandchildren: Abbey Luellen (Clint), Sarah Richardson, Ariana Ortega (Joey Wilmon), Kelly Ortega, Matt Richardson (Michelle Dabu), and Zach Richardson (Nicayle); five great-grandchildren: Raeleigh Richardson, Kaiden Richardson, Ellie Richardson, Blair Luellen, and Colt Luellen; sister Catherine JoAnn Meusburger of Maxwell, IA; sisters-in-law Janet Richardson of Perry and Deborah Richardson of Great Bend, KS; other relatives, and many friends. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation for the love and care given to Dad by the wonderful nurses and staff of Perry Lutheran Home-Eden Acres and Suncrest Hospice. * A visitation will be held Monday, July 10, 2023 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Perry with burial in Violet Hill Cemetery.
