Lea Marcia Nims

Des Moines, IA - Lea Marcia ‘Marcy’ (Carlson) Nims passed away surrounded by her family on December 5, 2024, at Deerfield Retirement Community. She was born December 10, 1930, in Des Moines, IA, the daughter of Fred and Marguerite (Riedesel) Carlson.

Marcy graduated from Roosevelt High School, class of 1949. After graduation, she attended Colorado Women’s College, Oklahoma State, and became an airline stewardess. Marcy married her high school sweetheart, Dean Nims, and they settled in Des Moines. They celebrated 72 years of marriage in September. Marcy was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and PEO.

In addition to her parents, Marcy was preceded in death by her brothers, Jack Carlson and Paul Carlson, sister Rosalie Carlson, and sons Dwayne Nims, Gregory Nims, and David Nims. Surviving are her husband Dean; son, Stephen (Christine) Nims; daughter-in-law, Allison Nims; two granddaughters, Jessica (Aaron) Bennett and Angela Nims; 5 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Per her wishes, Marcy has been cremated, and a private family burial will be held at a later date. Those who wish to remember her may make gifts to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
