Lee Anna Walrod, 86, passed away on August 25, 2017 at Kavanagh House in Des Moines after a battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at Oakland Cemetery in De Soto. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 29th at the funeral home where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Lee was born in Missouri on February 15, 1931 to Clarence and Blanche (Kreglow) Rhinehart. Lee lived in Houstonia, Missouri until the death of her father. At the age of 13, Lee and family moved and settled in Dallas Center, Iowa. She graduated from Dallas Center in the class of 1949, where she participated in chorus, was the drum majorette and was a cheerleader. Lee attended UNI. She taught school at Baxter and various other schools in the Dallas County area after her children were born. Lee was united in marriage to Charles (Bud) C. Walrod on July 26, 1952. Lee was a great wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved to garden, to volunteer, to travel, participate in Red Hats Society, to embroider and to play cards. Lee is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bud, her natural born children, Chuck Walrod of Granger, Leann Walrod of Los Gatos, California and Michael (Tonya) Walrod of De Soto, one brother, Robert (Barb) Rhinehart and many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Lee leaves behind Carmen (Roberto) Taborga, Jerry and Alex Santos, Edna (John) Ramos, and Edith Elizondo, all of whom were exchange students in the Walrod home and called her Mom as well. Her grandchildren are Travis (Kim) Walrod, Cassandra Walrod, David (Keana) Potts, Monica (Danny) Potts Busch, Alicia Walrod, Robert (Allie) Taborga, Phillippe (Amanda) Taborga and Karen (Alex) Catron. She was so proud of her great-grandchildren, Charlie, Declan, Rowyn, Otis, Breanna, Bennett, Taylor, Jaxson, Kailee, Gabriela, Andre, Isabela, Casey, Caden,Calvin, Carmen, Connor and Annabelle. Lee was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Clinton Walrod. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or Foster the Bay. Online condolences may be left on this site.
