Leland Richard Godwin

Leland Godwin, age 93 of Perry, passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Perry Lutheran Homes King's Garden Campus in Perry, IA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care in Perry. Burial will be in the Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry, IA. Everyone is encouraged to wear face coverings and practice social distancing while attending visitation and services. Memorials will be given to Kindred Hospice or Perry Bible Church and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home & Cremation Care. Leland Richard Godwin was born on August 12, 1927 at Melcher, IA to Harold and Mary (Jenkins) Godwin. He graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1946. He served in the United States Navy during WW II. He was united in marriage to Grace Evelyn Luke at the Woodward United Methodist Church on June 15, 1947. Leland worked at Siglin Plumbing and Heating beginning in 1946 until it closed and then worked at Ken Bratney Corp. in Urbandale, IA until he retired. He was a member of the Perry Bible Church. Leland enjoyed bowling, fishing, travelling, doing woodworking projects, and taking care of his yard and garden. In death he rejoins his parents, Harold and Mary Godwin and his brother-in-law, Harold "Ben" Luke. Left to cherish Lelands memory are his wife Evelyn, Perry, a sister-in-law, Inez Luke, Woodward, IA, nephews, David (Joyce) Luke, Woodward, IA, and Terry (Cindy) Luke, Woodward, IA and many nieces and nephews.
