Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2012 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. A visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012, with family present to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial with military honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8142 and the American Legion Post #184 of Winterset will be in the Winterset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family will be appreciated. Leo Everett Rogers was born March 16, 1930 in Madison County, Iowa; the son of Raymond and Mae (Johnston) Rogers. He served in the United State Air Force and while in the service, met his future wife, Marsha Ingram. The two were married on December 17, 1949 in Reno, Nevada and celebrated 62 years of marriage. Leo was a brick mason all of his life working with brick, block and stone. He was self-employed as Roger’s Masonry until his retirement in 1997. Leo was very knowledgeable about the history of Madison County. His career as a stone mason and love of history was a natural mix since his Clark ancestors were brick and stone masons and were among the first settlers of Madison County. He was a member of the Evening Star Masonic Lodge #43 of Winterset and he enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading books, and woodworking. Leo was called home to be with the Lord Monday, January 16, 2012 at his home. He was 81. Leo is survived by his wife, Marsha of Winterset; his five children, Kathy (Dennis) Allsup of Winterset, Alicia (Ronald) McDonald of Winterset, Patty (Doug) Slagter of St. Charles, Scott (Teresa) Rogers of Winterset, and Julie (Scott) Davis of Creston. He is also survived by a sister Rosemarie Niblo (Jim McDonald) of Winterset; 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren (plus one on the way). He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marshall “Sam” Rogers; a brother, Ralph and two sisters, Evelyn and Genevieve.
