Leona Lee Miller, 80, of De Soto passed away at Mercy West Lakes Hospital January 15, 2017. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial following at Oakland Cemetery in De Soto. Family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Leona (Lee) was born January 17, 1936 to James Edwin Phillips and Enid Corrine Holmes in Earlham. She grew up in Earlham and De Soto. She attended De Soto High School. On March 19, 1955 she was united in marriage to Donald C. Miller in Winterset, Iowa. To this marriage three children were born: Marty, Gary, and Dawn Corrine. The couple made their home in De Soto. Lee worked several years at Parker Games. She also worked for Firestone Tire & Rubber until she retired. She worked for the State cleaning rest areas while she was on strike at Firestone. Prior to that she crossed the picket lines to work at Firestone anyway. She always had so much spunk and didn’t like to follow rules. She was preceded in death by her parents;her husband, Donald; daughter, Dawn Corrine; sisters, Wanda and Betty; brother, James Edwin, Jr., and Aunt Hazel. Leona leaves behind her loving family: son, Gary Miller and Marty (Jean) Miller; grandchildren, Kylie Mitchell, Blake Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, and Natalie Mitchell; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends that will miss her dearly.
