Lester Delbert Davis, Jr.

Lester Delbert Davis Jr, 93, of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023, at MercyOne Hospice House in Johnston, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on April 22, 1930, in Marietta, IA to Lester Davis Sr. and Ila (Patterson) Davis.

Lester was a hardworking individual who spent most of his life running his own business, performing tree removal and trimming and also as a demolition contractor.  He was known for his exceptional work ethic and his commitment to his clients, who often became his friends.

Lester was married to Frances "Fran" Mikelson, September 18, 1955. The two were married for 67+ years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He especially loved the little ones climbing on his lap and playing on the floor around him.

Lester will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the community.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA 50322. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10:30 am at the funeral home. A funeral procession will proceed to Rising Sun Cemetery in Pleasant Hill. Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation.

His contributions to his community will never be forgotten.

Lester is survived by his wife, Frances Davis; daughters, Diana Davis, Janice Laabs, Bonnie Feldman, and Loretta Quinn; son, Lester Davis III; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Davis Sr; mother, Ila Decker; his brothers and sisters;  and son, Linden Davis.
