Lewis Frederick Jolly, age 70, of Urbandale, IA, died from complications of heart disease on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by his family. Lewis was born April 13, 1951, in Des Moines, the son of Lewis and Glenna (Polly) (Forinash) Jolly. He is the brother of Polly McNeill (Michael) of Algona, Catherine Benham (Jeff), and James (Leslie) Jolly of Grinnell. He graduated from Kirkwood Community College, in Cedar Rapids, IA, in 1973 in the Electronics Engineering Technology Program. Lewis married Mary Shellenberger in 1972, and they have three children Jessica (Jason Foley), Emily (Chris Carver, and his children Jason and Olivia), and Molly Dunlap (Dan) all of Urbandale and Des Moines. He has two wonderful grandchildren that he loved dearly, Stella and Charlie Dunlap. Lewis was preceded in death by his loving parents Lewis and Polly Jolly and by his sister Catherine. Lewis loved life and cherished his family and friends, his uplifting spirit and energy touched all who had the good fortune to know him. Lewis was an electronics and mechanical wizard who was frequently relied upon by family and friends for repair work. He was employed by Audio Labs for over 40 years working in both the service and sales departments. Lewis loved animals and he was an avid audiophile, his enthusiastic love of music and extensive music library was inspirational. He loved Coca Cola and the memorabilia, science fiction and fantasy genres, and he was an aficionado of the Doctor Who series, comic books, Triumph motorcycles, roadsters, and pinball and pachinko machines. Lewis was known as the “cool” uncle, he made it naturally cool to be unique.
