Linda Rhoads, 70, of Winterset, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at her home. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 17, at Ochiltree’s, with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family and online condolences may be left at ochiltree.com. Linda Sue Ross, the daughter of Clifton ‘Bing’ and Alice (Johnson) Ross was born in Des Moines on September 8, 1945. She grew up in Winterset and graduated from Winterset High School in the Class of 1964. Her marriage to Billy Wayne Rhoads took place on August 8, 1965, at the First Presbyterian Church in Winterset. Linda was a homemaker all of her life, raising her children and later running a daycare from her home. She loved children and enjoyed taking care of them and she especially loved her grandchildren. Linda was not one to join groups but found great joy in the care she gave to children. She enjoyed flower gardening and she loved her dog, Sophie, who was her special friend. Above all else, Linda loved her family and cherished time spent with them. Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Laurie (Marty) Smith, Donna (Jeff) Jackson and Brett Rhoads (Vicki Morlan) of Winterset. She is further survived by a brother, Craig (Cherlyn) Ross of Des Moines; nine grandchildren, Heather (Trevor) Nelson, Jesse Smith, Abby (Jason) Brown, Brandon Jacobs, Virgil Blu Jackson, Nick Rhoads, Mallory Rhoads, Erin Rhoads, and Autumn Rhoads; two great-grandchildren, Quentin Brown and Alexis Nelson; extended family and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
