Linda F. Wilburn of Laurie Missouri passed away peacefully on Thursday September 29, 2022, at Newton Healthcare in Iowa. Linda, the daughter of Herbert and Faye Carter was born on April 2, 1938, in Grinnell, Iowa. The youngest of four children, she was a “tomboy” and was doted on by her older sisters and brother. She started working in the 7th grade detasseling corn and continued working at her mom and dad’s gas station and in her brother’s grocery store in Grinnell. Linda graduated from Grinnell High School in 1956 and the University of Iowa in 1960 with a BA in education. She taught 4th, 5th and 6th grades in West Bend and Cedar Rapids, Iowa until the spring of 1978.
On July 2, 1978, Linda married the love of her life, Brian Wilburn in Port Washington. Their wedding festivities included a week-long celebration of beach walking, sailing, fishing, canoeing, boating, stone tossing, shopping, golfing, volleyball and bicycling. Linda and Brian lived in Port Washington until 1990 when they moved to Lake of the Ozarks area in Missouri. They worked in office furniture sales.
Linda loved adventure and travel. Together she and Brian enjoyed snow skiing, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing to name a few. Linda was a great cook and loved playing cards with family and visiting casinos.
After Brian’s death in 2009, Linda moved to Laurie and joined her “singles group” sponsored through the Ozark Chapel of Laurie. She made many friends and she found comfort in companionship and conversation.
Linda is survived by her brother, Jerry (Shirley) Carter of Marion, Iowa; her stepchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Brian Wilburn; and her sisters Mary Beyer and Barbara Lint.
