Lloyd Elmer Doc Walker II, 92, passed away on Sunday, January 25th, at the Urbandale Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa. A memorial service will be held 12:30 p.m., Friday, February 6, 2015 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home & Crematory, Urbandale, Iowa. Inurnment will be prior to services at 11:00 a.m., at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa. Doc was born December 15, 1922 in Dike, Iowa to Lloyd Sr. and Elsie Cowley Walker. The family moved to Sumner, Iowa one year later. Doc graduated from Sumner High School in 1940. He joined the Army and had his training in California and Alabama. Doc married Lucille Armentrout on August 5, 1944, in Anniston, Alabama, just a few days before he was shipped overseas during WWII. This past August they celebrated 70 years of marriage. After almost two years overseas he came back to the U.S. and the couple settled in Sumner. They built an auto shop and later acquired the Ford dealership. Docs father, Lloyd Sr., was also a mechanic and worked for Doc until he retired. Doc owned and worked at his business, Walker Ford Sales., for 35 years, retiring in 1981. Six years later Doc and Lucille moved to North Twin Lakes, west of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Summers were spent at Twin Lakes and they also spent 20 winters as snow birds in Brandon, Florida. In 2007, they moved to their present home at The Reserve Senior Living Community in Urbandale, Iowa. Doc belonged to the United Methodist Church, American Legion, Masons, Shriners, and Rotary Club. Doc enjoyed working with antique cars and antique furniture restoring. He liked boating, golfing, playing cards, and in 1991, he began to carve figures out of wood, becoming quite a woodcarver. He is survived by his wife Lucille Armentrout Walker, six children: Tom (Sherrel) Walker, Portage, WI; Carolyn Walker, Iowa City; Deanne Archer, Orange City, Iowa; Elva Walker, West Des Moines, IA; Jim (Chele) Walker, Stoughton, WI; and Mary (Don) Haden, Johnston, IA. The couple has 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Doc is also survived by one brother, J. Russell Walker, Dunkerton, Iowa, and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie Walker and Catherine Carney, as well as three brothers, Paul, Stanley, and Harold Walker.
