Lloyd John Schachtner

Lloyd John Schachtner, 80, passed away November 28th, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa surrounded by his loving family after a gallant battle against cancer. Lloyd was born February 25, 1935, in Carroll County, Iowa, to George and Theresa (Neuerburg) Schachtner. He grew up in Fonda, Iowa and graduated from Our Lady of Good Council High School in 1954. He married Marian Phyllis Schleisman at St. Marys Catholic Church, in Pomeroy, Iowa in 1957. They farmed in the Fonda-Pomeroy area for several years. The couple then moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1964. Lloyd worked for Sears for 14 years. In 1976 Lloyd and Marian became the owners of various laundry and dry cleaning businesses in Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 3 brothers: Paul, Leo and Walter Schachtner, and his 3 sisters: Verna Maytstadt, Ruth Madden and Donna Mae Hoerchler. He is survived by his wife Marian, Daughter Joleen (Tom) Royer, Son Terry (Amelia) Schachtner, Daughter Susan (Jack) Rome, Son Jeff (Lucy) Schachtner, and Daughter Nancy Schachtner. He has 11 Grandchildren: Alexandra, Andrew (Sarah) and Joseph Schachtner; Kelly (Aaron) Lawson, Kevin Royer; Amanda Farrell, Nita and Rebecca Rome; Berlin, Eric and Eva Schachtner; and two great grand children Oliver and Coraline Lawson. A wake will be held November 30, 2015 from 4-6 PM at Caldwell-Parrish Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM Tuesday December 1, 2015 at St. Francis Assisi in West Des Moines, Iowa. Final inurnment will be at 11 AM December 2nd at Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery, Fonda, IA. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
