Lois Alberta Hill

d. August 19, 2007

On September 16, 1917, Lois was born to Harte Adgate Allyn and Winona (Nona) Lane Allyn on a farm in Delaware County near Masonville, Iowa. Lois had two brothers, Charles Albert Allyn, deceased in 1927, and Francis Raymond (Frank) Allyn, who currently resides in Eldora, Iowa with his wife, Ruth. Lois graduated from Manchester High School in 1934 and then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, where she received her Rural Teachers Certificate. She taught in her home country school for two years prior to her marriage in 1938 to her high school sweetheart, M. Trevor Baskerville, a Methodist minister for 35 years until his death in 1973. They had two children, Allyn Trevor Baskerville, who currently lives in Yuma, Arizona, and Mary Lou Baskerville McCormick, who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, with her husband, David. Lois and Trevor left a legacy of eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In 1976, Lois married E. Howard Hill, and they lived on the Hill farm west of Minburn, Iowa until Howard's death in 2002. Howard had three daughters, Marjorie Joslin and Marilyn Hagedorn, both of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Margaret Northey, who lives with her husband, Wayne, in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Lois had seven step-grandchildren and fourteen great-step-grandchildren. Lois always commented on how their combined extended families added so much happiness to her life. Lois was active in the Methodist Church all of her adult life. She enjoyed singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, working with the Youth Groups and belonging to the Women's Clubs. She served on numerous committees in the churches, as well as in the communities where she lived, held offices in various organizations, and volunteered whenever she saw a need. Upon her passing, she was a member of P.E.O., Chapter O.K. in Perry, and a member of the Perry United Methodist Women and Naomi Circle. When asked what her secret was for such a long life, Lois once replied, "Having the love of the Lord in my heart, living a good life of high morals, and drinking green tea!" Lois Hill left her life on this earth to join her beloved heavenly Father on August 19, 2007, at the age of 89, after three years of residency at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa. Lois bequested her body to research and science at the University of Iowa Medical School. Memorials may be left to Hastings Funeral Home in Perry.
