Lois Maxine (Green) McMain 93 of Ankeny, Ia and formerly of Centerville, Ia passed away peacefully on Tuesday August 3, 2021 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Ia. A heartfelt thanks to the excellent & compassionate care the staff gave her in her final days. A celebration of life will take place at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home in Urbandale ,Ia on Sunday, August 15, 2021 from 1-3 pm Lois was born on August 24, 1927, the youngest of 11 children. She was a coal miners daughter and as she would say "not Loretta Lynn", but was very proud of her heritage. Lois graduated from Centerville High School in 1945. On November 16, 1946 she married James Daniel McMain after he served in WW II with the Army Air Force. They were married for 64 years prior to his death in 2010. Lois was dedicated to her family, she was very outgoing, generous and kindhearted , with the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Her family came first and she was most happy when she had her loved ones around her. Her home was a safe haven to many, also providing great memories and conversations around the kitchen table with family & friends. After graduating from Americana Beauty school in 1959, she owned and operated Lois's Beauty Salon in the Highland Park area in Des Moines, Ia. Later she worked at Greyhound Accounting in West Des Moines, Ia. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed circle word puzzles, sewing, cooking, decorating her home and shopping at TJ Maxx. Her favorite TV programs were Foresenic Files, Cardinals Baseball and Dr. Phil. Survivors include her son Randy (Sue) and daughter Shari; grandsons Kurt (Tammy), Bret (Tania); granddaughter Amanda (Al); great grandsons Branden & Luke. Great granddaughters Kala & Mya great great grandchildern Emma Jane, Rylee Dawn & Mason. She also had nieces Silvanna Tjepkes, Bonnie Green & Amy Shoppa-Testrake and nephews Erna Matthews and John (Jamie) Matthews, Max (Jean) Cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband James and son Greg McMain; her parents Delcie and William Green, 7 sisters and 3 brothers. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
