Lois Sawhill, 94, of Winterset went home to her Lord and Savior on September 13, 2019 at West Bridge Care & Rehab in Winterset. A visitation will be held 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 17 at New Bridge Church in Winterset, with family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 18 at the New Bridge Church. Burial will be at the Clark Cemetery, Madison County. Memorials may be directed to the New Bridge Church. Online condolences can be left at caldwellparrish.com. Lois Maxine Ackelson was born to and Cloyd Emory and Gladys Leota (Jeffs) Ackelson on January 23, 1925, at a farm south of Peru, Iowa; the third of seven children. She married Wayne Gaylord Sawhill on March 3, 1946, at her family home. Lois attended elementary and high school in Peru, Iowa. She got her teaching certificate from Simpson College and taught in various country schools in the area. During this time, Lois accepted Christ as her Savior and her life changed forever. She worked at the Western Continental Insurance Company in Des Moines and spent most of her time as a homemaker. She loved the outdoors, her garden and her flowers. Lois made the best pies and cinnamon rolls. She had been an active member of the Ord Christian Union Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School. She picked up neighborhood children so they could attend Sunday school. She was a member of the New Bridge Church in her later years. Lois is survived by her daughter, Loretta (Gary) Jensen of Winterset; sister, Marilyn Hutton of Ankeny; brother-in-law, Dale (Sally) Sawhill of Ankeny; grandsons, Scott (Julie) Jensen and Shawn Jensen; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Caden Jensen; and step great-grandson, Kevin Gurley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; her son, Ronald Wayne Sawhill; brothers, Garland and Wayne Ackelson; sisters, Josie Cramer, Betty Edgington and Darlene Hildreth.
