Lorraine Powell, 84, of Winterset died Sunday March 29, 2015 at Winterset Care Center North. There will be a private family burial at a later date. Any memorials may be directed to the Farmers and Merchants Freedom Rock Fund. Edna “Lorraine” Powell, daughter of Glen and Pearl (Chase) Shaw, was born October 27, 1930 in Winterset, Iowa. She graduated from Winterset High School in 1949. Lorraine was united in marriage with Edward Powell on December 11, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Three daughters were born to this union. She was a homemaker for most of her life helping Edward run the farm near Holliwell Bridge near Winterset. Lorraine was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary, the Holliwell Happy Hour Club and the Madison County Genealogical Society. She was a patron of the Holliwell Bridge, kept the records of visitors and was recognized with the first “Friends of Bridges” award. Lorraine was a collector of many things including pig figurines. Lorraine is survived by her three daughters, Marcia (Meredith) Meador of Winterset, Carmaleta Roddy of Lubbock, TX, and Kathy (Scott) Stine of Winterset; five grandchildren, Amanda (John) Allsup, Mark (Amber) Meador, Carly Stine, Marty (Lori) Meador, and Anna Meador; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Norma Shaw of Winterset; nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward in 1998; and brother, Cecil Shaw.
