Lowell Bence

Lowell Bence, 85, of Winterset, died Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Taylor House in Des Moines. A visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 15, at the Calvary Cemetery near Churchville. Memorials may be directed to the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines and online condolences can be left at ochiltree.com. Lowell Francis Bence, son of Frank and Grace (Blink) Bence was born on April 12, 1932, near Bondurant. He graduated from Bondurant High School in 1950. Lowell worked as a truck driver for SuperValu for most of his working career and he also farmed. Lowell enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and visiting with family and friends. Lowell is survived by his eight children, Cathy Jacobs of Altoona, Joan Naylor, Pam Johnson, Mark (Patsy) Bence all of Winterset, Brad Bence of Idaho, Laurie Bence of West Des Moines, Kim Bence of Pleasant Hill, Dawn (Lucas) Dudney of Texas, 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren; long-time partner, Sandy Bence of Ankeny, nieces, nephews extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law, Bernard (Helen) Bence; sister, Marlene Kaczinski; and a grandson, Larry Owen.
