Loyd Eugene Wearmouth

Loyd was born in rural Madison County on August 6, 1923, the youngest child born to William and Ethel Ellen (Campfield) Wearmouth. He spent his youth in Lorimor and Winterset, Iowa, graduating from Lorimor High School. His marriage to Ruth Courtney took place on March 1, 1944 in St. Louis, MO. He lived in Stillwater, Minnesota for many years, and has resided in Des Moines the past 15 years. Loyd is survived by his wife, Ruth of Urbandale; his children, Connie Broesder (Chris K.) of Urbandale, Craig Wearmouth (Sue) of Ogden, Walter Wearmouth (Teena) of Des Moines, Julia Wearmouth of Urbandale, Todd Wearmouth of Hudson, WI and stepson Tom Keller (Jill) of Denver, CO; ten grandchildren (Dawn, Randee, Misty, Wade, Gina, Chad, Courtney, Ian, Hanna and Lillian); nine great grandchildren (Mindi, Megan, Haylea, Cassy, Brittany, Cadence, Madeline, Maxwell and Reginald); three great-great grandchildren (Matthew, Abby Jo and Ryan); and three sisters, Verlene Simmerman of Hysham, MT, Lucille Gabbert and Lurene Orwan both of Cherokee Village, AR. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents. Loyd served in the United States Army during World War II as a heavy machine gunner and fought in battles in Ardennes, Rhineland, Battle of the Bulge and campaigns in Central Europe. Loyd and his unit received the EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars. Loyd also received 2 purple hearts. During his life, Loyd farmed, worked as a lineman on the railroad and was an OTR semi-driver for 30 years. After retiring from trucking, he worked as a painter, carpenter, builder and security guard. Loyd also enjoyed gardening.
