Lucena Marie Hanselman

A service for Lucena Marie Hanselman was held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry, Iowa. Words of comfort were provided by Pastor Kelly Gafkjen, Chaplin for Iowa Hospice. Casket bearers were Rick Miles, Richard Supper, Mark Hanselman, Fenton Hanselman, Travis Love and Drew Love. Music was provided by Marjorie Vannatta and Hymns played were "In The Garden", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace". Interment was at the Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn, Iowa. Following the service there was a time of lunch and Fellowship at Hastings Funeral Home. Lucena Marie Hanselman at age 79 years, 11 months 6 days joined our Lord on July 6, 2013 at Adel Acres Nursing Home in Adel, Iowa. Lucena was born on August 27, 1933 to DeWitt and CeCelia (Smith) Hanselman in Rapid City, South Dakota. The family returned to their home in Minburn, Iowa when Lucena was less than one year old. She lived most of her life in Minburn and she also lived at the Dallas County Home for many years with the last five years at Adel Acres in Adel, Iowa. Lucena loved her family and friends and no one loved little babies as much as her. She always looked forward to the time of new additions to the family. Lucena loved to shop and go out to lunch and take rides and go visiting. She always looked forward to her weekend visits with her sister Merna and the holidays and family reunions. Lucena had a great love of her favorite dogs and cats. Lucena touched so many lives and made numerous friends everywhere she went. Preceding her in death were her parents, father DeWitt in 1968 and mother CeCelia in 1972, niece Carla Miles in 1993 and brother-in-law Roscoe Miles in 1996. Left to mourn her death are her brothers Jerrold Hanselman (Norma) of New Sharon and Everett Hanselman (Irene) of Perry and sisters Fae Miles of Des Moines, Merna House (Robert) of Minburn and Carol Rickels (Kaye Don) of Perry; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Jenny Spracher. Lucena had many special friends: Chloe known to her as care Bear, Lisa and all the others who cared for her at the Adel Acres Nursing Home.
