Lucia Louise Hoppenworth

Lucia Warth (Bryant) Hoppenworth, 71, died Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Taylor House Hospice following a 5 year battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be 11 AM, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Avenue SW, Altoona, IA 50009. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale, IA 50322. Lucia was born in Mediapolis, IA to Lucian and Gertrude Warth. She was a farm girl at heart. Lucia enjoyed playing basketball and softball in high school and was extremely proud to have been on two state tournament basketball teams. She was Valedictorian of her class and a member of Alpha Lambda Delta at the University of Iowa. Lucia married Michael Bryant in 1964 and had two children. Douglas and Deborah were her pride and joy until she had grandchildren. She was the definition of a special grandma and always made a point of attending every event. Lucia will be missed by her son, Doug (Liz) Bryant of West Des Moines; daughter, Deb (Scottie) Janssen of Johnston; grandchildren, Hannah, Kendall, Andrew and Noah; brother, Ed Warth of Iowa City; many nieces, nephews and an abundance of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, Lauren Bryant as well as her brothers Gary and Keith.
