Lucille Frances (Armentrout) Walker passed away peacefully on December 17, 2016 at Mercy Hospice In Johnston, IA at the age of 91. Lucille was born September 8, 1925 on her parents farm in Hazelton Township, Buchanan County, IA. She was educated in the Hazelton School System until her senior year of high school when the family moved to Maynard, IA where she graduated from the Maynard School District. Lucille Frances Armentrout and Lloyd Elmer (Doc) Walker II were united in marriage on August 5, 1944 in Anniston, AL. While Doc completed a tour of duty in the armed services, Lucille attended Upper Iowa University and taught school in Sumner, IA. Following this, the couple made their home in Sumner, IA where they opened and operated an automobile dealership for many years and raised six children. Upon retirement in 1982, they split their time living in Twin Lakes, IA and Brandon, FL. Eventually, they moved to the Reserve Independent Living facility in Urbandale, IA. After Doc’s passing, Lucille spent the final two years of her life at the Kennybrook Village Assisted Living Facility in Grimes, IA. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, one grandchild and her loving husband of 70 years. She is survived by her six children, 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the Douglas Avenue Presbyterian Church, 4601 Douglas Avenue, Des Moines, IA on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. A reception and life celebration will follow in the church parlors. Interment will be at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA.
