Lucille Lydia Schuessler was born in Muscatine, Iowa on December 30, 1914 to Frederick William and Catherine (Marolf) Schuessler. Lucille grew up in Bloomington Township, Muscatine County and attended Kalarama Country School. It was while she attended country school that she met her future husband, Carl Edmund Beatty. Lucille and Carl were married April 3, 1938 at her parent’s home. After their marriage, Lucille dedicated her time to keeping an orderly home. When children came along, Lucille took on the dual role of wife and mother. She spent countless hours canning, doing laundry, dressing chickens and selling eggs. She was also an excellent cook and always made sure a hot meal was prepared for her family at breakfast, dinner and supper. She was also an excellent baker making delicious pies, with perfect crusts; amazing cinnamon rolls and none of her family will ever forget her home made chocolate cake. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Spangler Chapel Church where she was active in the UMW and the Church Ladies Bible Study. She was also a longtime member of the Bloomington Grange. Lucille died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Simpson Memorial Home. She was 96.
