Lucy was born September 10, 1916 in Cass County, Iowa, the daughter of C. Dana and Laura (Dorsey) Lattig. She graduated from Macksburg High School and later married Floyd Kirkland on December 29, 1933. Lucy was a housewife most of her life. She worked as a school cook in the Greeley, Colorado and Macksburg schools. Survivors include her children, George Kirkland (Betty) of Winterset, Gerald Kirkland (Kay) of Montrose, Colorado, Nancy Smith (Jim) of Macksburg, Dennis Kirkland (Janice) of Creston, and Linda Evans (Ken) of Washington, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Harriet Garrett (Marvin) of Creston and Isobel Duff of Creston; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Kirkland and Leona Kirkland both of Winterset; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Floyd in 1974, two great grandsons, Patrick Kirkland and Levi Boothe; two sisters, Clarice Claypool and Ethelyn Spencer, and two brothers, Delmar Lattig and Cy Lattig. She was a member of the Mackburg United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Women’s Relief Corp and the Rebekahs. Lucy was a great cook. She loved to quilt and spend time gardening. She also enjoyed making stuffed animals for her grandchildren. Lucy died Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset. She was 90. Visitation: Family will receive friends prior to services at 9:00 a.m. June 9, 2007 at Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg, Iowa. Service: 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 9, 2007 at Macksburg United Methodist Church in Macksburg, Iowa. Memorial: Memorials may be directed to a fund established in Lucy's name to be decided on at a later date.
