Luella Hooper - Winterset

Luella Hooper, 90, of Winterset, Iowa, died Monday, August 24, 2015, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 28, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Winterset with Pastor Joel Nau officiating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Luella was born on March 18, 1925, at Orient, South Dakota to John and Martha (Andersen) Loken. She was married on June 8, 1945 at Winterset, Iowa, to Lawrence Hooper. She had been a resident of Winterset since 1946. In 2012 she went to live with her son, Mike, in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. Luella had been a baker for over 50 years. She started working nights cooking at the Aldo Caf̩, which was followed by working in the bakery department at the Gold Buffet. She then became the manager of the Bakery department in the Bizz Mart Super Value Store. Luella is survived by her daughter, Linda Wight of Fountain Valley, CA; son, Mike Hooper of Cromwell; brother-in-law, Lloyd Jark of Stratford, SD; sister-in-law, Cora Mae Loken of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Emily, Amanda, Megan, Matthew, and Darren; six great grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha (Andersen) Loken; husband, Lawrence Hooper; brothers, Harold Loken, Robert Loken, and Jerauld Loken; and sisters, Irene Ragels and Lillian Jark. Visitation will be Thursday from noon to 8 PM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM. Memorials may be given to her family for a future designation.
