INTERMENT Junction Township Cemetery Grand Junction, Iowa Lyle Freemont Hadley was born November 19, 1935 on a farm near Redfield, Iowa in the same house where his father was born in 1908. He died Sunday, February 11, 2018 at the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 23 days. His parents were Burton Freemont and Edith Viola Swanson Hadley. He attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from high school in Dexter, Iowa in May 1954. In July 1954 he joined the United States Army and shipped out from Seattle December 14, arriving in Yokohama Harbor, Japan on New Year's Eve. He crossed the International Date-Line on December 25th and lost this Christmas Day forever. He received an honorable discharge in July 1956, with the rank of Corporal. Lyle farmed with his dad while taking college courses in agronomy at Iowa State College. He married Dorothy Carlson in Paton, Iowa on August 18, 1961. They shared 56 years together. They lived in Dana, Iowa, where they had two children together; Kurt and Sheila. Lyle was employed at E. A. Milligan Elevator, was a set-up mechanic for Wiltse & Mears International Harvester dealership in Grand Junction, Iowa, and later worked for DeWitt Implement in Ogden, Iowa for 13 years. He worked evenings and weekends at James Champlin in Dana and with Harold Peterson on his farm during planting and harvest time. He worked at Greene County Motors in Jefferson and later at Bob Brown Chevrolet in Des Moines in the shipping and receiving department for 18 years until retirement in 2005. Lyle enjoyed road trips, camping, bicycling and collecting toy tractors and tractor books. He was a good storyteller. He had a unique way with words. One such phrase, was when something was excellent he said it was "much more gooder". He loved his family and enjoyed getting together with the extended Hadley and Swanson families. Lyle is survived by his wife Dorothy and son Kurt of Jefferson, IA; daughter Sheila of Rockville, MD; sister Marolyn (Bruce) Hill of Fort Dodge, IA and extended family and friends. Memorials may be given to the family for donation to the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
