Lyle was born on June 11, 1942, in Templeton, Iowa, to Bernard Sr. and Irma (Stangel) Tunink. He graduated from the Glidden High School class of 1960.

On May 4, 1968, Lyle married the love of his life, Janice Wilson, in Lidderdale, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with four children: Danene, Cory, L.D., and Chad, and they built their family home in Perry, Iowa, where they created a lifetime of cherished memories.

He was a member of the United States National Guard for several years. Lyle later transitioned into a career as a truck driver, founding and operating Perry Transport. He took pride in his work and his company, finally retiring in 2016 after many dedicated years.

In his younger days, Lyle loved go-karting with his boys. He was an enthusiastic Iowa Hawkeyes football fan, a passionate NASCAR viewer, and enjoyed relaxing with puzzle books. More than anything, Lyle loved spending time with his family and especially took joy in watching his grandchildren in their sporting events.

Lyle leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Janice Tunink of Perry; his children, Danene (Jack) Stewart of Perry, Cory (Andrea) Tunink of Perry, L.D. (Julia) Tunink of Perry, and Chad (Amy) Tunink of Grimes; grandchildren, Jayde (Kory) Fellom of Perry, Zach Stewart of Ankeny, Grace Stewart of Lynnville, Jeb Stewart of Perry, Phoebe Stewart of Perry, Thad Stewart of Perry, Peyton Tunink of Perry, Maci Tunink of Perry, Aiden Tunink of Perry, Kennedy Tunink of Perry, Gable Tunink of Grimes, and Karley Tunink of Grimes; and great-grandson, Jet Stanley Fellom of Perry, along with many other relatives and friends.

His legacy of love, dedication, and family will live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
