She grew up in Chariton and graduated from Chariton High School in 1964. Her marriage to Robert La Follette took place on May 31, 1969 at the Grace Methodist Church in Des Moines. Lynn attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1970 with a degree in Medical Micro Biology and she received a teaching certification from Simpson College in 1986. In 1975, Lynn and Robert founded a vet clinic in Fonda, Iowa where Lynn took an active role managing the day to day of the practice. In 1984, the family moved to Winterset and purchased an acreage on the west edge of town. She and Robert raised their family and felt blessed to be caretakers of this historic property. Lynn was a science teacher in the Winterset Schools from 1990 until her retirement in 2004. Lynn was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Tri-L Book Club, Eastern Star and the Garden Club. She was also a member of the Madison County River Alliance and MCFEE. She loved nature and animals, especially horses which she had all of her life. At heart she was a naturalist who enjoyed gardening, hiking, canoeing and felt closest to her Lord when she was outdoors. All this said, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than time spent with her family. She is survived by her husband Robert La Follette of Winterset, her four children, Dr. Ahren (Lynn) La Follette of Edgerton, MN; Carrie (Josh) Drum of Solon; Andrew (Deedrie) La Follette of Mt. Vernon; Abbie (Mark) Phillip of Anaconda, MT; a brother, Blair (Sherry) Davis of Centennial, CO and eight grandchildren, Adam and Austin La Follette; Kathryn and Julianne Drum; Colter and Elsa La Follette and Henry and Joseph Phillip. She was preceded in death by her parents.
