Visitation: Mabel was born October 28, 1907 in Zumbrota, Goodhue County, Minnesota. She graduated from Lake City High School in Minnesota and later completed teacher’s training. Her marriage to Ralph Lamport took place on August 26, 1936 at home in Wabasha County, Minnesota. Together they owned and operated the West End Grocery/Texaco in Winterset. Mabel is survived by her son, Dennis Lamport and wife, Jill of Indianola; two grandchildren, Brenda Butler and husband, Rhett of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and David Lamport of Indianola; and one great grandchild, Katelyn Ann Butler of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Edith Gibbs Wellman; her husband, Ralph in 1957; and a granddaughter Deanne Blades. Mabel was an active volunteer for the Madison County Historical Society and gave tours for the John Wayne Birthplace. She was member of the Episcopal Church and a longtime member of the Republican Women. She was also an administrator for the Vidmar Foundation. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid reader. Mabel died Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at the Madison Square Assisted Living Community in Winterset, attended by Middle River Hospice. She was 99 years old. Service: Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society and/or the Winterset Public Library. Memorial: for family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 18, 2007 at Madison Square Assisted Living Community Room, Winterset, Iowa.
