Hastings Funeral Home if Jefferson is in charge of arrangements for Mabel King Maloney, 107 of Jefferson, who died Monday, April 2, 2012 at Regency Nursing and Rehab. Services will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. The family will greet friends during a time of lunch and fellowship at the church. Visitation will be Monday, April 9 from 1 to 5 p.m. Mabel is survived by her nephews:Bob King and wife Nancy of Missouri Valley, IA and Dick King of Omaha, NE, and a niece, Betty King of Columbus, NE. Mabel Louise King was born July 21, 1904 on the family farm near Pisgah, Iowa. Her parents were Harvey and Leona Silsby King. She passed away April 2, 2012 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehab in Jefferson, Iowa at the age of 107. Mabel graduated from Pisgah High School with a 4 year scholastic scholarship for college. She attended State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and Drake University in Des Moines where she graduated with a bachelors of Science degree. She had 39 years of teaching experience; the last 29 years were in Jefferson. She retired in 1970. Before coming to Jefferson, she enjoyed playing her cornet in town bands, church orchestras, marching bands in Cedar Falls, and duets with her brother, Glenn. Mabel was a member of the Methodist Church since 1915. She was a sponsor for youth fellowship and a Sunday school teacher for the youth for many years. In later years she was active in the women's department. Mabel was a long time active member of Margaret Fuller Study Club, Greene County Retired Teacher Organization, Business and Professional Women's Club Delta Kappa Gamma teacher's organization, County Club and a Canasta Club. Mabel traveled to Alaska, north of the Artic Circle, Hawaii, Mexico, and Western Europe. She also went to every state in the US except Delaware and all of the Canadian provinces except the Maritime Province. Mabel married Ralph Maloney in December 1974. They enjoyed traveling together; they went to Hawaii, took two trips to Europe, and spent eight winters in Florida. Ralph passed away April of 1991 at the age of 99. Mabel is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, her parents, and her brother Glenn. Mabel is survived by her nephews: Bob King and wife Nancy of Missouri Valley, IA; and Dick King of Omaha, NE; a niece, Betty King of Columbus, NE, 4 grand nephews, 6 grand nieces, and many cousins and friends.
