A funeral service for Mae Helen Honold was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Iowa. Reverend Timothy Jones of the Trinity Lutheran Church provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were: Alan Honold, Chuck Honold, Joe Kinning, Michael Kinning, Mark Sorenson and Jim Giese. Mark Erickson was the Organist. Hymns chosen were How Great Thou Art and Beautiful Savior. Interment took place at the Willow Township Cemetery in Greene County, Iowa. Mae Helen Honold, daughter of Mary Ulrich and Herman Anderson, was born on January 19, 1912 on her parents' farm near Coon Rapids, Iowa and died November 28, 2013 at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit at the age of 101 years, 10 months and 9 days. Mae received her education in the Willow #4 country school that her late husband and children also attended. On January 16, 1935, Mae was married to George Honold at her parents' home. The couple made their home on the home farm in Willow Twp where they lived until George died in 1985. They were the parents' of two children; Romaine and Alta Mae. Mae then moved to Ames and later returned to Jefferson to live at the Greene County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit. Mae was a loyal farm wife and had a passion for baking and cooking. Mae crocheted and did all kinds of needle work and sewing. Mae enjoyed playing piano and played for Sunday school for many years. Mae was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jefferson and enjoyed couponing and the quilting circle there. Mae was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Herman; her loving husband George; her son-in-law Jim Pierick in 2003 and grandson Michael Pierick in 2005; her sister Alpha Watson and brothers George and Orville Anderson. Mae is survived by and will be lovingly remembered by her son Romaine Honold (Cleo) of Ames; daughter Alta Mae Pierick of Winter Park, FL; three grandchildren: Alan Honold (Elaine) of Lawrenceville, GA; Chuck Honold of Des Moines and Mikki Kinning (Joe) of Des Moines; four great grandchildren: Matthew and Sarah Honold and Michael and Carly Kinning; a sister-in-law: Grace Anderson of Fort Dodge; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and many friends.
