Mae Joy Alcaraz Hughes

Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson is in charge of arrangements for Mae Joy Hughes, 29, of Jefferson. Mae Joy died November 17, 2021 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Family will be present from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held December 22, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Jefferson. Mae Joy Alcaraz Hughes, daughter of Joseph and Myla Alcaraz, was born April 7, 1992 in Tacloban City, Philippines. She moved to 29 Palms, California in December 2014 and worked at the Continuing Care Center. Mae Joy got her bachelor's degree in business and was attending school full time to get her nursing degree. On February 10, 2015 Mae Joy and Brian John Hughes were united in marriage in Las Vegas, Nevada. The couple moved to Jefferson, Iowa in 2019. Mae Joy worked at the Greene County Medical Center as a CNA and CMA. She enjoyed cooking, going to arcades, and traveling. Mae Joy worked full time and was a fulltime student. She was a member of the St Joseph's Catholic Church in Jefferson. Mae Joy passed away after a long battle with COVID on November 17, 2021 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Mae Joy is survived by her husband Brian Hughes of Jefferson, her parents Joseph and Myla Alcaraz of the Philippines, her sister Jhade Cahilig Alcaraz also of the Philippines, many aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
