Malcom Vedane, 79, of Winterset died Friday, February 19, 2016 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset with a luncheon at the New Bridge Church in Winterset immediately following the service. Memorials may be directed to Indopartner Agency, Inc, c/o Jeff Gulleson, 620 S. Winthrop Street, Gilbert, AZ 85296. Indopartners works to introduce Muslims to Christianity in Indonesia. Malcom Leroy Vedane was born June 9, 1936 in Lewis, Iowa to Victor and Della (Hancock) Vedane. He grew up in Menlo and graduated from Menlo High School in 1953. Following graduation, he worked on the farm before beginning his 30-year career with Northwestern Bell. Malcom worked with Northwestern Bell from 1954 to 1984 with a short hiatus when he was drafted and served in the United States Army. Malcom took an early retirement and took this opportunity to start his own company called Associated Communications Advisors, a communications consulting firm. In 1992 Malcom moved to Missouri to fulfill a live-long dream of owning a ranch where he could raise cattle which he did until moving to Winterset in 2014. Malcom married Mary Lou Gaekle on September 15, 1957 at the Methodist Church in Oskaloosa and to this union two children were born, Monica and Mitchell. He was a member of the Optimist Club of Winterset, the American International Charolais Association, and was a member of the Methodist Church of Winterset and previously of Nixa, Missouri. Malcom was a kind and generous man who enjoyed helping people with his time and money. Above all else, he was a loving father and grandfather who cherished the time he was able to spend with family. Malcom is survived by his children, Monica (Mort, Jr.) Machir of Winterset and Mitch (Mary Beth) Vedane of Des Moines; two brothers, Charles (Lucy) Vedane of Huntsville, AL and Clyde (Sandra) Vedane of Round Rock, TX; eight grandchildren, Steven (Jennifer) Machir, Samantha (Ryan)Tucker, Morton Machir, Joshua Vedane, Jennifer Vedane, Jessica Vedane, Joe Vedane, and Jeremiah Vedane. He was preceded in death by his parents.
