Marian Louise Goodenberger

She was preceded in death by her adopted parents; biological parents; and two grandchildren, Michael Siebels Jr. and Ashton Marie Goodenberger. While Emery was in Law School, Marian worked in the birth rooms at Iowa Methodist Hospital. In 1953 she and Emery moved to Winterset. While a nurse in Winterset, Marian worked in the operating and emergency rooms at the Madison County Memorial Hospital for 19 years. She later worked as the school nurse at the Winterset Community Schools for 20 years until retiring in 1989. Following her retirement they made their home at Lake Panorama near Panora, Iowa and she and Emery moved back to Winterset in June of 2006. In 1974, Marian was united with her biological mother, Helen Burd and sister, Ruth, aunts, uncles and cousins who were all originally from the Murray and Osceola areas. Marian Louise Burd was born February 14, 1929 in Chicago and was adopted from the Iowa Children's Home on June 6, 1929 by The Rev. W. C. and Reba (Talley) Henn. She graduated from High School at Yale, Iowa and then attended the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing where she graduated in 1950. Her marriage to Emery Lee Goodenberger took place at the First Methodist Church in Des Moines on September 3, 1950 and the wedding was officiated by her father, Rev. W. C. Henn and grandfather, Rev. Roy Talley. To this union six children were born. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Emery Goodenberger of Winterset; four daughters, Marcia Bankus (Dale) of Quincy, IL; Rhonda Wagoner (Jeff) of Winterset, Sondra Smith (Dale) of Jefferson, Pamela Anderson (Paul) of St. Louis, MO; two sons, Perry Goodenberger (Terri) of Winterset, Marty Goodenberger (Stacy) of Des Moines; fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Marian was always active in the community. While in Winterset she was instrumental in the founding of the Multi Purpose Center. After moving to Lake Panorama, Marian was a member of The Brethran Church and Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Par 3 Golf Club and was influential in the building of the club's clubhouse; she started social get-acquainted groups; was a member and officer of HALO; Garden Club and was a contributing editor of Around the Lake column for the Panorama Times. Marian loved to play cards in many regular groups; was an avid Hawk fan and was interested in most sports, having played basketball and softball in high school. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday where family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. April 25, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, Iowa. Service: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 26, 2007 at First Baptist Church, Winterset Memorial: Memorials may be directed to a fund which has been established in Marian's name.
