Marie was born November 10, 1930 in Brainerd, Minnesota, the daughter of Michael and Vida (Ziegler) Kerley. She graduated from Brainerd High School and later married Bill Parkins on December 2, 1950 and to this union three children were born. During her working career, Marie worked as a nurse’s aid at several nursing homes, including Winterset Care Center North and Bethesda in Winterset as well as Fountain West in Des Moines. She was also a waitress at the Club Cafe and worked for Look Magazine in Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents. Marie was a good cook. She liked shopping and picnics, and loved to read. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching television and she was known for speaking her mind. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Farlow and husband, Gene of Winterset and Karen Walker and husband, Dave of Des Moines; one son, Ralph ‘Steve’ Parkins of Winterset; five grandchildren, Mike Lemon, Scott Lemon, Harmony Horn, David Walker Jr., and Renee Baker; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Horn, Zachary Baker, and Shayla Baker; two sisters, Isabel Ludwig and husband, Joe of Kenosha, Wisconsin and Lois Holland and husband, Rhuel of Russellville, Alabama; and one brother, James Kerley and wife, Janice of Queen Creek, Arizona. Visitation: 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, where the family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. January 9, 2005 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare.
