Marie Mills

Marie Mills, 96, of Lakeville, Minnesota, died May 1, 2018, at her home in Lakeville. A private family burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines. Marie Lana Mills, daughter of George and Winifred (Martin) Karaidos, was born February 24, 1922, in Des Moines, Iowa. She attended schools in the Des Moines area and graduated from North High School in 1940. Marie worked as secretary for past Iowa Lieutenant Governor, William Nicholas and past Iowa Secretary of State, Melvin Synhorst, and later worked at Koch Brothers in Des Moines. Marie was known to all who loved her as “Aunt Mimi.” She was an avid reader who never lost the passion for learning. Mimi enjoyed poetry and memorized many poems over the years. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh, tell jokes and stories. Mimi was blessed to have a reliable and caring partner in Brian Stone to share her life experiences with. One of her most precious companions was her dog, Footsie. Mimi had style- she loved interesting food and was a “walking fashion plate.” All this said, Marie was a loyal daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed. Marie is survived by her siblings, Helen Cunningham of Winterset; George (Karen) Karaidos, Jr. of Des Moines; longtime partner, Brian Stone; numerous nieces and nephews; great and great great nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Jim (Alverda) Karaidos.
