Marilyn (Mickey) Elizabeth Black, 90, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2018. Marilyn was born on November 13, 1928 in Blue Earth, Minnesota to Frank and Agnes (Krienke) Moline. She married the love of her life, John Black, on June 2, 1950 in Blue Earth. He was her other half throughout their 51 years of marriage and the remainder of her life. Marilyn attended Westmar College and graduated with a teaching degree. She first taught in Logan Community School District in western Iowa. She obtained her Master’s in Education at Mankato State University. She and Jack moved to Urbandale, Iowa. She taught in the Urbandale junior and senior high schools. In the high school, she taught Art and P.E. Later, they left teaching and owned the Dairy Queen at 2nd Avenue and Euclid in Des Moines. They continued to teach and mentor students as employees of the Dairy Queen. Mickey loved to attend her son and grandsons’ activities, especially baseball games. She loved her family deeply. As a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, she and her family designed, built, and donated the alter tables, lectern, cross, and communion rails to the church. Marilyn also enjoyed golf, bowling, and continued to express her love of art and creativity as a lifelong hobby. In retirement in Bella Vista, AR, Marilyn and Jack remained active in their hobbies and the community. Marilyn is survived by her son, Craig (Sarah) Black; grandchildren, Spencer (Carli) Black, Kellan (Kathryn) Black, and Connor Black; and great-grandchildren; Emerson, Sage, Josephine, and Carter Black. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother, and a sister. Memorial contributions may be made to Aldrersgate United Methodist Church or EveryStep Hospice.
