Marilyn (Chickering) Hughes, 70, of Winterset died on Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. She is survived by her husband, Larry of Winterset; her children, Michelle Hughes-Lozano (Henry) of Winterset, Connie Fenimore (Rick) of Truro; and Phil Hughes (Mary) of Winterset; a brother, Marvin Chickering (Iola) of Algona; six grandchildren (Ross, Kyle, Paige, Ashley, Dylan, and Hunter); and one great grandchild (Bailee). Marilyn was born February 16, 1937 in Jackson Township, Madison County, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Doris (Eyerly) Chickering. After her father’s death at a young age, she was raised by her grandparents, mother and stepfather. She graduated from Macksburg High School in 1955 and later married Larry A. Hughes on October 7, 1956 at Wesley Chapel in Madison County. Marilyn was a homemaker and worked for a time at Employer’s Mutual in Des Moines. She was a member of the Hobby Club, the Kasson Friendship Club, and as a young girl, she was a member of 4-H. Marilyn had a green thumb which she expressed through her love of gardening and flowers. She enjoyed deer hunting and making baby quilts. She loved cats and raised Persian cats for a time. Marilyn also loved country music, especially Alan Jackson, of which she was a member of his fan club. Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. November 2, 2007 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare, Winterset, Iowa . In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Make A Wish Foundation.
