Marilyn Elaine Chance

Marilyn Elaine (Spearing) Chance, 88, of Adel, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at the Stuart Community Care Center following a long battle with Alzheimers.

Marilyn was born in Bangor, Maine on May 5th, 1935 to Ralph Michael and Evelyn Ruth (Fielding) Spearing, which is where she met the love of her life, Bob, during his time in the service. The two were married for 69 years and raised 5 beautiful children together. Marilyn was an incredible homemaker, always making sure the house was neat and tidy and that the children had homemade lunches for school. She was also known for her incredible baking skills. Her apple pies, homemade breads, and oatmeal-raisin cookies were often requested for family gatherings. Marilyn and Bob’s home was filled with love and laughter, as well as  songs from Glenn Miller, Eddy Arnold, and her favorite, Patsy Cline. She will be remembered as an incredibly loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by many.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Dorothy, Walter, Alice, Harry, Roland, Kenny, Bobby, Paul, Donna, Donald, and Everett, her grandson; Joseph, and her great-grandson; Liam.

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Bob Chance, her 5 children; Cindy (Richard) Weems, David (Jeanette) Chance, Janice Howard, Sue Wunsch, and Marty (Patti) Chance, as well as 9 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home, Adel Chapel with a visitation taking place one hour prior beginning at 10:00 a.m. A private family burial will take place in the Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.
