Marilyn J. Bown

Marilyn was born February 25, 1934 in Dallas County, Iowa, the daughter of Rosco L. and Ida (Smith) Grose. Her marriage to George I. Bown took place on April 20, 1958 in Van Meter, Iowa. She is survived by her mother, Ida Smith of Winterset; her husband, George of Winterset; children, Debra Jones and husband, Steve of Des Moines, David Bown and wife, Kim of Earlham, Diane Koch and husband, Jeff of Van Meter, Douglas Bown and wife, Angela of Des Moines; mother-in-law, Alice Bown of Winterset; brother, Ronald Grose and wife, Caroline of Macksburg; sister, Sandra Brown and husband, Mark of Macksburg; and seven grandchildren, Alicia and Zach Jones, Abby and Justin Bown, and Kendra, Megan and Benjamin Koch. Marilyn graduated from Van Meter High School. She and her husband, George farmed in Warren County for three years before moving to their current farm in Madison County in 1962 where they raised four children. Before her marriage, Marilyn worked with Dr. Felter in Van Meter as a secretary. After her marriage she worked for a short time as a secretary for the Indianola High School and most recently she worked at the UFS Bank in Winterset. She was a dedicated member of the Worthington United Methodist Church and held many church offices. Throughout her life, Marilyn enjoyed being a part of the Sweet Adelines, collecting antique furniture, and sewing. She enjoyed working in her many flower gardens and researching genealogy. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and delighted in taking care of her family and home. Worthington Cemetery, Madison County, Iowa Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. November 4, 2003 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Service: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday November 5, 2003 at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare Memorial: She was preceded in death by her father, Rosco Grose.
