Marion Steven Teclaw, 93, of Clive, IA passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023, surrounded by his family. He was born December 19, 1929 in Thorp, WI to Mike and Verna Teclaw. After graduating from Thorp High School in 1947, Marion moved to Milwaukee, WI to work for the Nash Car Company. In 1950, he entered the military serving 3 years with the U.S. Army Paratroopers at Fort Benning, GA. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1953, he played semi-pro football with the Chippewa Mariners for one season. In 1955, he began driving a semi-truck across the U.S. and Canada.
Marion was united in marriage to Margaret Carlson on September 15, 1956 in Pocahontas, IA. They made their home in Luverne, MN and Laurens, IA. Marion worked for Hakes Foods/Scrivner for 32 years, retiring in 1991. After retirement, they spent their winters in Arizona and later moved to Johnston, IA in 2001.
Marion’s family was his life. He enjoyed traveling with Margaret that took them all over the country and world. He enjoyed all family gatherings, golfing, shanghai rummy, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa State Cyclones. But most of all, he loved cheering for his children and grandchildren at their sporting events.
Marion was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His strong faith and work ethic were evident in everything he did. He was well known for his sense of humor, and always having a joke or story to tell. Marion was a member of St. Mary of Nazareth Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion.
Marion is survived by his 4 children: Patricia Teclaw of West Des Moines, Bev Teclaw of Johnston, Jackie Ackerman and husband Nile of Johnston, and Greg Teclaw and wife Cindy of Granby, CT; 10 grandchildren: Nathan Spohn, Derrick Meister, Janae Gray and husband Scott, Alex Greig and wife Laura, Danielle Greig, Megan Grimwade and husband Nick, Nicole Ackerman, Olivia Teclaw, Jake Teclaw, and Ryan Teclaw; 4 great-grandchildren: Nelson Spohn, Louis Spohn, Luka Greig and Niko Greig. He is also survived by 3 brothers: Raymond, Richard, and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret of 63 years, a stillborn daughter, daughter Michelle Meister, granddaughter Jasmine Greig, brothers Leon, Malen, Norbert, Al, and sisters Florence, Angeline, Marcella, and Lillian.
