Marjorie A. Brokaw - Winterset

Marjorie A. Brokaw, 84, of Winterset, Iowa, died Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with Pastor John Shaull officiating. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Marjorie was born on January 18, 1929, at Winterset to Walter and Sadie (Weaver) Smith. She had lived most of her life in Winterset and was a 1946 graduate of Winterset High School. She was married on May 18, 1959 at Valley, Nebraska, to Kenneth Earl Brokaw. Marjorie had worked a few years for United Airlines in Chicago, then worked a few years for an insurance underwriter company in Des Moines. She had spent most of her life being a homemaker. Marjorie belonged to the Studious Moderns Club, Madison County Genealogical Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary in Winterset, Madison County Historical Society where she served as a guide and a volunteer, Friends of the Winterset Public Library, and the Winterset Alumni Association. Marjorie is survived by her husband, Kenneth Brokaw of Winterset; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Sadie (Weaver) Smith. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon to 8 PM at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Madison County Historical Society, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Friends of the Winterset Library, or the Winterset Alumni Association.
