A service for Marjorie Mae Blackburn was held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was after 1:00 p.m. Friday with family present form 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Reverend Julie E. F. Poulsen of the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson provided words of comfort. Honorary bearers were: her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casket bearers were: Bret Blackburn, Bob Egeland, Logan Egeland, Danny Baugh, Mike Blackburn and Matthew Blackburn. Recorded music selected was In The Garden, I Can Only Imagine- Mercy Me, Amazing Grace and The Dance- Garth Brooks. Interment took place at the Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa. Following the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at the First United Methodist Church. Marjorie Mae Blackburn, daughter of Nicholas Leo Miller and May Baker Miller, was born April 12, 1923 in Jefferson, Iowa and died December 9, 2014 at the Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson at the age of 91. Marjorie grew up on a farm South West of Jefferson in Scranton, Iowa. She graduated from high school in 1940. On September 7, 1941 Marjorie and Darrell Corwin Blackburn were united in marriage. The couple lived in Jefferson and were blessed with eight children: Jim, Jerry, Larry, Nick, Gary, Mark, Sandy and Mary. Marjorie taught at Jackson #5 one room school and also worked at Darrell's Donut Shop, and now is Bunkers Dunkers. She enjoyed word search puzzles, playing cards, gambling and playing the slots. Marjorie also enjoyed camping and she was a good cook. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darrell (1991), sons Jim and Jerry Blackburn, granddaughter Wendy Blackburn, great-grandson Jacob Egeland, brothers Doc Miller and Barney Miller, sisters Madge Lyons, and Nada Heenan. Marjorie is survived by her daughters Sandy Baugh (Bob) of Jefferson, IA and Mary Hill of Aurora, CO; sons Larry Blackburn (Betty) of Jefferson, IA, Nick Blackburn (Debbie) of Jefferson, IA, Gary Blackburn (Ramona) of Springdale, AR; Mark Blackburn (Pam) of Sanford, NC; grandchildren: Teresa Bentz (Ron), Tami Blackburn, Tanya Kopke (Helmut), Brenda Egeland (Bob), Mike Blackburn (Jenny), Danny Baugh (Amy), Bret Blackburn (Laura), Bart Blackburn, Matt Blackburn, Jennifer Clipperton (Jeremy), Nicole Chambless (Jeff), Susan Crocket (Bo), Laura Scheuermann (Rod), Penny Blackburn, Richard Blackburn, Jackie Blackburn, Tyler Hill and Kyle Hill; great grandchildren; sister Beverlee McCartney (Keith) of Burke, VA; sister-in-law Marjorie Greene, of Ames nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
