Marge was born November 14, 1931 in Franklin County, Iowa to Luke and Agnes King. She graduated from Ackley High School in 1949. That summer she began working at Hardin County REC. In 1951, she met the love of her life, John “Jack” Scallon, at the St. Mary’s Lawn Social. They were united in marriage on October 3, 1953. This blessed marriage lasted nearly 69 years. Together they raised 10 children on the family farm near Ackley, Iowa. Marge was very faith-filled and lived her life with kindness and had a deep appreciation for family and friends. Her smile was contagious. The twinkle in her eye could light up a room. She was a wonderful listener to her husband, children and grandchildren. She would takes notes to make sure no child would miss their turn to talk. Our joys became her joys and our disappointments became her disappointments. She was our biggest cheerleader. Managing 10 children could be as difficult a job as that of any CEO. With 12 mouths to feed along with keeping track of many schedules, 4-H projects, gardening and attending athletic events, no wonder matching socks was not a priority. She enjoyed a rare night off by going to the couple’s card club and St. Mary’s Altar Society. Later in life, she enjoyed her social activities with neighborhood and church friends. She was an accomplished seamstress. She loved sewing clothes and snowmen and making numerous beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren. Left behind to cherish memories of her include her husband Jack, and her children, Mary Jo (Russ) Steinkamp of Carroll, Gregory (Luann) of Waverly, Donald (Deb) of Ackley, Barbara (Christopher) Covert of Clive, Bernard (Han) of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Teresa (Steve) Hunter of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, Paul (Ann) of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Bryan) Dubberke of Ankeny, Susan Geller of Grimes along with 27 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and her brother Robert (Marlene) King of Stewartville, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son David, her granddaughter Elizabeth and her brothers, Lloyd and Delmar, and three brothers in infancy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Easter Seals of Iowa. One last thing she would like to request…Love one another and please forgive and forget.
