Marlene Sue Bown

Marlene Sue Bown, age 78, passed away from cancer on July 31, 2019. She was born on October 6, 1940 near Seymour, Iowa to Eldon and Dorothy Fetters. She married her sweetheart, Fred A. Bown on June 12, 1959, with whom she very recently had celebrated 60 years of marriage. Three children were born into this blessed union; Brenda, Bryan, and Allen Bown. Marlene was a dedicated Christian wife and mother first and foremost. She treasured her husband and children and embraced every moment with them. She also loved her role as Grandma to her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren and considered daughters-in-law and her grandchildren's spouses as her own children and grandchildren. She was well known for her cheerfulness, kind heart and loving personality to everyone, even complete strangers she met while shopping or going about her daily life. Marlene served her Lord and Savior faithfully throughout her life and was looking forward to many happy reunions when she found out she would be "going home" soon. Marlene is cherished and survived by her loving husband Fred Bown; sister, Marcia Fetters; children Brenda Bown, Bryan (Jennifer) Bown and Allen (Teresa) Bown; nine grandchildren Dawn Bown, Jenna (Zach) Wheeler, Jordan Bown, Kyle Bown, Bethany (Flint) Fenton, Logan Bown and Lance Bown; and two great grandchildren, Malachi Wheeler and Finneas Wheeler; also many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law and friends too numerous to count. All of these she loved and touched deeply and always had a smile to share. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Dorothy Fetters and her sister, Marilyn Bown. Per Marlene's wishes, there will be no formal funeral service. Family & friends are instead invited to attend an informal visitation celebrating Marlene's life with Marlene's family on August 3, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., at the Pleasant Hill Church of Christ building, located at 5901 E University Ave, Pleasant Hill, IA 50327. Interment will be made at a later date by the family in the Confidence, Iowa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice-Johnston, 5820 Winwood Drive, Johnston, IA 50131.
