He grew up around Macksburg and graduated from Winterset High School in 1974. He then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1978 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. His marriage to Ruth Ann Althoff took place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg, Iowa on December 1, 1984. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church; the Madison County Pork Producers and he served on the Madison County Zoning Board; was a former Mayor and Council member for Macksburg and was a proud member of the Macksburg Co-op Coffee Club. He enjoyed annual skiing trips through the years with college friends and he also loved going to the State Fair and helping with the 4-H Hog Show at the Madison County Fair. When he relaxed he loved to watch old movies, especially westerns, James Bond thrillers and anything starring Clint Eastwood. Marlin worked as a farmer all of his life but he would most wish to be remembered as a devoted husband and father. Marlin is survived by his wife, Ruth Eivins of Macksburg; his parents, Darrell and Ida Eivins of Lorimor; his children, Michelle West (Travis) of Lenox; Michael Eivins of Macksburg; his siblings, Alan Eivins of Lorimor; Garnet Johnson of Windsor Heights; Karen Kalasinsky (Tom) of Winterset; Nona Eivins (Michael Pohle) of West Des Moines; several nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
