Martha Campbell

March 17, 1916 — June 5, 2009

Martha Catherine Meier Campbell, daughter of Peter Meier Jr and Elizabeth Ann Haberer Meier, was born March 17, 1916, on her parents' farm in Boone County, Iowa and died June 5, 2009 at St. John's Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo, CA at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 19 days. Martha graduated from Perry High School and attended AIB Business School in Des Moines. She married John Frederick Campbell on January 12, 1937 at her parents' home. The couple made their home on a farm northeast of Perry. They were parents of two children: Terry and Nancy. In 1946, the family moved to Des Moines and in 1959 moved to La Cresenta, California. When Fred retired in 1977, he and Martha moved to Escondido. There they were members of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. Martha enjoyed playing Bridge and was an excellent player. She was a great cook also. After Fred's death December 26, 1991, Martha moved to Camarillo to be near her daughter Nancy. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Terry in 2008 and grandson Scott Campbell in 1984. Martha is survived by her daughter Nancy Counsil of Camarillo, CA; four grandchildren: Debbie Palmer (Alex); Todd Campbell; Brian Counsil (Kristin) and Jennifer Counsil, all of California; 7 great-grandchildren: Eric Palmer, Emilie Palmer, Katherine Palmer, Brittany Campbell, Riley Katherine Counsil, Owen Campbell Counsil, and Camryn Ann Counsil; other relatives including Esther Brooks, Mary Jane Moore, and Chuck Schott, all of Perry Services were held at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009. Pastor Joan White of First Presbyterian Church in Perry officiated. Burial was in Violet Hill Cemetery next to her husband Fred.
