Martha Elizabeth Barton

Martha Elizabeth Barton, daughter of Albert Lovejoy and Goldie Hoover Lovejoy, was born on January 31, 1920 in Rippey, Iowa and died March 26, 2007 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 87 yearrs, 1 month and 26 days. Martha grew up in the Rippey area and graduated from high school in Rippey. She went on to earn a degree as a registered nurse from Broadlawns Medical Center. Martha was united in marriage to Howard Barton on March 25, 1941 at the home of her parents in Rippey. They lived in the Rippey area for many years before moving to Perry and were the parents of three daughters. Martha worked many years as a Registered Nurse for the Dallas County Hospital in Perry until her retirement. In her free time, Martha enjoyed gardening, cooking, needlework, and reading, but her greatest love was that of her work at the hospital and caring for others. She is survived by three daughters, Pauline(Paul)Moore of Perry, Marilyn (Norman)Stine of Adel, marjorie Barton of Jefferson; 8 grandchildren, Kathlee (Randall)Vestal of Kanasas City, MO, Tracy (Silke) Moore of Perry, Jerry 9Rosetta) Moore of Ogden, Gregory (Deborah)Moore of Panorea, Tom (Audrey) Stine of Adel, Kerry (Jacob)Dittert of Adel, Cheryl (eric) Prazak of Boone, Leanna (Sean)Stine-Smith of DeSoto; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; one sister, Goldie Ellen Wright of Michigan; and nephew, LeeRoy Wright, Jr. of Michigan. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Goldie(Hoover)Lovejoy; husband, Howard Barton, and brother-in-law, LeeRoy Wright Sr.; other relatives and friends.
